LawnBott and Robomower Installation Guide

Installing a robotic lawn mower is is fairly simple, but does take some logical thinking for the layout.  A perimeter wire needs to be run similar to the diagram.  Think of it as completing an entire loop around your yard without picking up the pencil or crossing over a line.

First, determine the size of your yard.  As a rule of thumb it will take about 1,000 feet of wire for an acre yard or about 600 feet for 1/2 acre.

Wire

The Robomower comes with 800 ft. of wire which should be adequate for its maximum range.  Remember, the Robomower RL1000 is designed to be able to maintain about 1/2 acre.  I know Robomower markets a "one acre lot", that is more than a bit of a stretch.

Robomower uses a thin 16 gauge wire which works very well because of the short distance.  The longer the distance the greater the signal degradation.

For LawnBott on installations that require 1,500 or less, we recommend 14 gauge THHN from the local hardware store.  The LawnBott sinusoidal transmitter is very powerful, in fact too powerful for uses of under 1,500 ft.

In situations where over 1,500 ft. of wire may be needed, we suggest staying with the LawnBott wire which is stranded tinned copper wire.  The LawnBott wire can carry a useable signal over 2,000 ft. and with a signal booster can go beyond 3,000 ft.

Docking Station

Choosing the location for the docking station is important.  The location needs to be level and on the outside perimeter area.

Laying the Wire

The wire should be laid down rather loose so it can be adjusted during testing.

Installation for 1,000 sq. ft. yard takes about three hours.  Once it is set up and you are comfortable with it then sit back for years of enjoyment.

Your friends and neighbors will be astonished how it "just knows" to go to your property line or garden and turn away.
